At Health Leadership High School (HLHS), teachers serve as leaders in curriculum, community engagement, and social-emotional learning (SEL) to prepare students for college, internships, and entry into the healthcare workforce. This position is ideal for educators passionate about integrating real-world learning, community connections, and holistic student development in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Leader of Curriculum
Co-design and implement a rigorous, applied Project Based Learning curriculum aligned with the mission to prepare students for college, apprenticeships, or entry into the healthcare workforce.
Embrace innovative teaching practices and mastery-based assessment models to foster skill development and deeper learning, culminating in student-led exhibitions with community partners.
Collaborate with co-teachers to deliver interdisciplinary, inclusive instruction that integrates real-world health sector challenges and solutions.
Incorporate cultural and linguistic responsiveness in all teaching practices to reflect and respect the diversity of the school community.
Leader in Community Engagement
Establish authentic partnerships with community members, organizations, and healthcare professionals to enhance students’ learning experiences.
Create opportunities for students to engage in real-world projects that address community needs, developing leadership skills and a sense of social responsibility.
Design classrooms and projects that are accessible and welcoming to community partners and visitors, showcasing student work and fostering collaboration.
Participate in school-wide initiatives to recruit and retain students by promoting HLHS's mission and unique learning environment through community outreach and events.
Leader in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
Foster a safe and supportive school culture by integrating SEL principles into daily projects, advisory activities, and classroom instruction.
Lead a daily advisory class and oversee a caseload of students throughout their four-year high school experience, building meaningful relationships to support their academic and personal growth.
Support students’ emotional well-being by addressing their social and emotional needs, helping them develop resilience, confidence, and essential life skills.
Facilitate professional development and lead training sessions on SEL best practices to ensure that SEL principles are embedded across the school.
General Responsibilities
Participate in weekly professional development sessions and lead training in areas of expertise.
Design a classroom structure that fosters collaboration, innovation, and student engagement.
Support and engage in other essential duties as necessary in a small school environment, contributing to the success of HLHS.
Required Skills
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
New Mexico secondary teaching license.
Ability to pass a background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience supporting the social-emotional needs of students.
Endorsements in multiple content areas.
TESOL Certification.
Science and/or Math endorsement.
Modern and Classical Languages endorsement.
Special Education License.
