Social Worker

Gilbert L. Sena Charter High School is currently seeking to fill their open Social Worker position.

Job Overview

SUMMARY: To assist students in the reduction of social, emotional and environmental barriers to learning and establish healthy effective relationships with others. Establishing connection to our school community is a key indicator of success. This position must be able to prioritize and demonstrate flexibility in decision making in the moment.

Required Skills

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Prior experience with communities with high adverse childhood experiences.
Prior experiences working with Medicaid, Mc Kinney Vento, and IEP documentation.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. .
Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
Effective classroom instruction and curriculum design for both student and adults.
Interpersonal skills with a diverse population in-person and on the telephone.
Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
Effectively prioritize in a changing environment in a high trauma informed school community.
Demonstration of resilience when under challenging circumstances.
Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Employee must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

COUNSELING AND CASE MANAGEMENT
Provides family assessments, crisis intervention, group, individual and family counseling.
Connects students and families with outside agencies for resources and ensures follow up to the services.
Establishes a culture of trust in our Early Warning system for students experiencing Homeless and coordinates and communicates services to the school community.
Establishes and maintains relationships with other school personnel, community agencies, students and their families.
Establishes and maintains communication with parents regarding student academic, social and behavioral progress.
Acts as case manager and coordinates efforts for the management of individual and group cases as appropriate including Special Education Services.
Assesses the quality and effectiveness of school social work services and provides records as necessary.
Complies with the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers.

SEL INSTRUCTION
Effective communication with our Early Warning System Team that provides support and strategies for truant students through intervention meetings.


PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
DUTIES
Consults and shares information with teacher, administrators and other school personnel.
In addition to the essential functions of this job, the employee must perform the following duties:
Develops and delivers in-service programs for school and District staff and the community.
Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Sena High.
Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of school inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Master’s degree in Social Work.
Valid New Mexico State Board of Education license in Social Work 601.
Valid New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners license.

MINIMUM REQUIRED PRE-EMPLOYMENT AND OTHER EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
Satisfactory completion of physical examination.
Satisfactory completion of criminal background verification.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
The employee will work with staff members in a team environment which may include the administrative staff, State department personnel, Sena High legal counsel, parents, students, advocates and others outside the school.
Frequent interactions with people in person and on the phone will be necessary.
Travel from location to location may be necessary.
Functions are primarily performed indoors in a normal school or office environment and in students’ homes.
