Position Description:
At ACE, all staff are trusted professionals who are committed to their own growth and development and we invest in their learning through systematic and ongoing professional development. We are hiring a licensed Social Worker to serve as a member of our Student Support Team. We are looking for an authentic, passionate, dynamic and inspiring professional who will demonstrate commitment to improving educational outcomes for students and families through holistic student support, community engagement and Learning By Doing. The Student Support Social Worker is primarily responsible for carrying out the mission of the school based on the following duties:

  • Provide ongoing support services, interventions to all ACE students and families
  • Provide individual, group and family direct clinical practice services to include assessment and treatment planning in multiple settings including push-in and pull out.
  • Provide crisis intervention and mediation services to students as needed.
  • Collaborate with Achievement Coach to connect students and families with outside resources and services.
  • Provide general support, interventions and services to student families.
  • Collaborate with students, families and staff to develop and implement behavior interventions, success plans and positive behavior supports.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Student Support and all staff to ensure student needs are being met including attending weekly Student Staffers.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate communication with parents regarding students social and behavioral progress regarding social work issues.
  • Advocate for students and their families, as necessary, in the school and community.


Special Education

  • Manage a caseload of Special Education students to include advocacy, providing direct ancillary services and documentation compliance:
  • Provide services for Special Education students as required in the student’s IEP, including developing an appropriate Social Work goal and documenting progress toward goals.
  • Work collaboratively with Special Education teachers, advisors and other staff to ensure plans are being followed and services are being provided.


Other Duties

  • Implement a schoolwide culture of student accountability through a Positive Youth Development (PYD) model.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Support, Executive Director and Advisors to develop and implement a new Advisory Model.
  • Develop and facilitate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities and lessons for students in Advisory, electives and classes.
  • Collaborate with Advisors on integrating life skills and SEL into Advisory and projects.
  • Be visible in school including projects and advisory and meet weekly with your assigned advisory/project teachers.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development for staff on PYD, SEL and other student and family support topics.
  • Collaborate with the Community School Coordinator to plan and implement a new Community School model.
  • Use data to inform SEL and student support programming.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar and Test Coordinator to ensure the Developmental Assets Profile assessment is administered to all students and take the lead on organizing and interpreting the data to inform programming and services.
  • Maintain licensure requirements and professional development for growth and competency, by attending conferences and workshops as it applies to the position.
  • Provide morning, lunch and dismissal school supervision and substitute teacher coverage for advisory, projects and electives as needed.

Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited university
  • NM Public Education Department (NM PED) ​school social work license
  • NM State Regulations & Licensing Board ​LBSW or LMSW license
  • 3 years experience with at-promise youth
  • Ability to build authentic and meaningful relationships with students and families
  • Ability to pass a background check


Preferred Qualifications​:

  • NM State Regulations & Licensing Board LISW or LCSW license
  • Experience supporting the social and emotional needs of students in a school setting
  • Strong relationship building with students and families
  • Knowledge and experience with Positive Youth Development and Positive Behavior Supports
  • Knowledge and experience with Restorative Justice practices
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills
