Walt Benson

Mr. Benson was recognized for his leadership in the community and through the Albuquerque Public Schools Audit Committee.

Walt is a fourth generation New Mexican and a graduate of Albuquerque Public Schools. He attended the University of New Mexico, double majoring in psychology and history and earning two master’s degrees, one in history and one in business administration.  Walt is a small business owner and entrepreneur.  He spent most of his professional career in finance and banking while starting several successful businesses in and around Albuquerque.  Walt also helps lead one of Albuquerque’s largest mental health counseling clinics, where much of their time and resources are directed to Albuquerque’s International District.  Walt and his wife, Amy, have four school-aged children. He has been a member of the APS Audit Committee since August 2019.  His term on the Audit Committee ended in October, but he attended an additional meeting in November to complete the exit conference for the audit.  Thank you, Walt, for your leadership both in the community and through the APS Audit Committee!
