Sacred Wind Communications

Sacred Wind Communications was recognized as an exceptional community partner.

Sacred Wind Communications is a New Mexico-owned and operated rural telecommunications provider that opened its doors in 2006.  They are a small but mighty workforce of 54 employees headquartered in Yatahey, New Mexico, four miles outside of Gallup.  Sacred Wind’s mission is to provide equality of opportunity with affordable high-quality telecommunication services.  They operate in northwest New Mexico with parts of 22 Navajo chapters in the service territory, including To’hajiilee. In March of 2020, Sacred Wind Communications was contacted by several districts, colleges, and universities, including the To’hajiilee Bureau of Indian Education School to help find a solution for students who didn’t have internet or lacked sufficient bandwidth for remote learning.

Prior to the pandemic Sacred Wind was waiting on right of way permission to put a tower in To’hajiilee to reach more homes.  In March of 2020, they decided to no longer wait and placed a temporary tower on wheels at the chapter house to get fixed wireless internet connectivity to a couple hundred homes.  That tower is still there.  At the same time, Sacred Wind Communication installed the first-ever redundant fiber route between Albuquerque and Gallup with a fiber line running through a part of To’hajiilee.  They also installed a free educational Wi-Fi hotspot at the senior center and more recently added another free Wi-Fi hotspot at the Head Start building.

Thank you, Sacred Wind Communications, for making such a significant difference in the lives of APS students and the To’Hajillee community.
