Poly Carpio Madrid

Mr. Madrid, a veteran, was recognized for receiving his high school diploma.

Poly Carpio Madrid would have graduated from Albuquerque high school in June 1949, but instead left high school to serve his country.  Mr. Madrid and his family received the diploma in a ceremony on October 4, 2021.  Mr. Madrid served in World War II from December 7, 1941 through December 31, 1946.  He served in the First Infantry Division, also known as the Big Red One.  Mr. Madrid also served during the Korean War from June 27, 1950 through January 21, 1955, and served under General Clark. During the ceremony, Mr. Madrid thanked everyone present, especially the students. He expressed appreciation for the diploma and pride in receiving it.  He also shared that although he didn’t think he had many days left, he wanted to remember this day.  What an amazing gentleman!  Thank you for your service, Mr. Madrid, and for your commitment to the importance of education.
