Piper Heffron

Ms. Heffron was recognized for winning first place in the Letters About Literature contest.

Piper Heffron, a 7th grade student at Hoover Middle School, recently won first prize in the 7-8th grade category of the New Mexico State Library "Letters About Literature" contest.  The New Mexico Letters about Literature contest is for students in grades 4 through 12.  The contest is a reading and writing competition, which challenges students to write to an author and describe how his or her book affected them.  This annual competition is made possible by the New Mexico State Library, which is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and an affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book.  Ms. Heffron wrote her letter to Margaret Gurevich after reading Chloe by Design.  In the letter, she talks about being challenged to follow her dreams, stepping out of her comfort zone, and being more confident because of reading the book.  Congratulations on winning the contest, Piper!  Keep following your dreams!
