KANW Saturday Morning Dedications

KANW Station Manager Michael Brasher and Volunteer Jorja Armijo were recognized for helping to bring a positive message to New Mexico during this difficult time.

Since 1992, APS’s KANW General Manager, Michael Brasher, and volunteer Jorja Armijo have been a New Mexico Radio Tradition, with Saturday Morning dedications on KANW-FM 89.1. These dedications send a message and a song out to loved ones. It has always been an act of kindness, but in these difficult times, it is helping to bring a positive message to New Mexico.  Along with being on air talent, Brasher and Armijo set the example, provide guidance and mentorship to all KANW Staff and Volunteers.

Jorja Armijo, who ran both the Early Childhood Program and Senior Affairs for the City of Albuquerque and Michael Brasher, who has served as an ABQ City Councilor, Bernalillo County Commissioner and has been at the helm of KANW for over 45 years. Brasher and Armijo truly believe in public service and bring a unique understanding of the multigenerational audience they serve.

“The kindness of radio is the human voice. It is humanity’s earliest instrument of music; when anyone hears their name broadcast it is a magical act of kindness. You know you are thought of and cared for within our larger family,” said Dr. Beth Laura O’Leary, Professor Emerita, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces.

All of KANW’s extraordinary volunteers and their countless hours of on air shifts and other activities provide exceptional public media service to all New Mexican’s in Northern and Central New Mexico. Thank you for your commitment to the APS community and their kindness each Saturday morning is a consistent breath of fresh air in the midst of uncertain and difficult times.
