Flight Academy Scholarship

Cadet Veronica Bearup and Cadet Luke Vaughn were recognized for receiving Air Force Junior ROTC Flight Academy Scholarships.

Del Norte High School and nex+Gen Academy junior Veronica Bearup and Volcano Vista High School junior Luke Vaughn recently were named recipients of the prestigious Air Force Junior ROTC Flight Academy scholarship.  More than 1,340 JROTC cadets applied for the scholarships and only 230 students worldwide were selected. Cadets Bearup and Vaughn will attend an accredited aviation university participating in a private pilot license training program this summer.

The scholarship program is a collaborative effort between the aerospace industry and the Air Force to address a national pilot shortage and diversity.  Aviation is one of the least diverse professions in industry.  Yet, Air Force Junior ROTC with 125,000 cadets enrolled in high schools across the nation, is the Air Force’s most diverse program.

Cadet Bearup and Vaughn were chosen based on their GPA, good standing in their unit, a strong interest in aviation, and a “never-quit” attitude.  In addition, they both had to take an Air Force aviation aptitude test and provide instructor and school endorsements.  The scholarships cover transportation, room and board, academics, additional fees, and flight hours required to potentially earn a private pilot license and are valued at approximately $22,500.  Congratulations to Cadets Bearup and Vaughn!
