Childcare Coordination Team

Yvette Kaufman-Bell, the district's out-of-school time coordinator, Nestor Costales, the manager of strategic partnerships, and Daphne Strader, Coordinated School Health Department director were recognized for their extraordinary efforts to ensure childcare availability for school-aged students.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic health orders in March, a team of three staff has worked with multiple departments, community providers, schools, city staff, and state staff to ensure that childcare is available for school-aged students. This momentous task included researching, developing, and implementing safety practices, supporting and training principals, staff, and partners, and working with the governor's office, UNM, and other health providers to market the services.  All of this while riding the waves of change, from canceled schools to full-day services for essential workers, from summer childcare and learning programs to providing services as APS staff came back to work. Without the efforts of Yvette Kaufman-Bell, the district's out-of-school time coordinator, Nestor Costales, the manager of strategic partnerships, and Daphne Strader, Coordinated School Health Department director, these services would not have been available in such a quick, smooth, and safe manner.  Yvette, Nestor, and Daphne thank you for going above and beyond to coordinate with community partners and other APS staff to make these essential childcare services available.
