Board Services Office Interns

Olivia Traub and David Chyo were recognized for their work as interns with the Board of Education Board Services Office.

Olivia Traub joined the government affairs team to determine her interest in a future career in policy. She came to the team with experiences in mental health advocacy and community engagement. She was a part of the formation of the Eagles Advocates group at her school for moving action on mental health issues.  During her internship, she attended virtual legislative session hearings and visited schools with members of the Legislative Finance Committee.  She tried to find ways to keep her peers informed and engaged, including creating a blog.  She also developed ideas for how to encourage and increase authentic youth engagement.  She intends to attend American University in the fall.

David Chyo joined the board services team at the beginning of the school year.  Over the course of the year, he attended all the regular Board of Education meetings, helped manage public forum, interviewed board members, helped create Board of Education webpages, and attended virtual staff meetings where he learned about many behind-the-scenes aspects of board office work.  David also helped staff four graduation ceremonies in the days before his own graduation.  He is a self-starter and has a ‘see a need, fill a need’ attitude. He is planning to attend UNM or perhaps Leeds College in the UK next fall with a focus on chemical engineering.

Both Olivia and David were invited to help with a mental health partnership with APS, Bernalillo County, and the City of Albuquerque. Their work has helped inspire the desire to create a more formalized internship process for APS with students. Thank you Olivia and David for all your amazing work!
