APS Snow Watch Crew

The snow watch crew was recognized for their exemplary service.

• The snow watch crew determines whether there will be a two-hour delay or cancelation for APS schools in town and/or for East Mountain APS schools, which includes Manzano High School.
• It is a complicated process to make a decision.
• The team keeps a careful watch on all the weather apps, and works with the Department of Transportation, as well as the State Police.
• The team also physically checks the roads by driving north and south 14 (in the east mountains), all over the Metro area, and out to Laguna Pueblo in the west.
• This often requires getting up at 3 a.m. in order to make important and timely safety decisions based on real-time data.
• They also take into consideration the temperature and the chill factor for students waiting at bus stops.
• And the team has to consider night events like athletics and after-school activities. If those are canceled, they have to be rescheduled.
• It's a big responsibility. CNM, UNM, and the Kirtland Air Force Base typically follow APS.
• Thank you, Snow Watch Crew, for your work to keep our students and families safe!!
