Answers should be brief and concise.

Why do you want to be a board member for Albuquerque Public Schools?

I have a Master's degree in Education and I believe there should be more teachers on the Board. I am very concerned about the state of education in our district. We have been last for too many DECADES and a fresh perspective is needed to help our children succeed.

What is your interest in education?

I have always believed that learning is as important as breathing. We cannot take anything with us when we pass. except for our knowledge. I want our children to make a difference in the world. our country, our state, and our community. With a great education, our students can accomplish anything they set their minds to. I want to see all of our children succeed in the basics of reading. writing and mathematics. so that they can succeed in life after high school.

In what ways will you support the mission and vision of the district?

I know that community is important and that by focusing on our children. we can accomplish lhe goals of the District. I will support the mission and vision by listening to our students, parents, and teachers, making sure they have a voice on the Board.

How will you work with the superintendent?

As a Board member, I will work with the superintendent to make sure he/she follows the direction the Board decides we should go in promoting and accomplishing the mission and vision of the District.

What is your past and current involvement with Albuquerque Public Schools?

I was a general education 3rd grade teacher at Atrisco Elementary, and a special education Science teacher for 6/7/8th grades at Madison and Ernie Pyle Middle Schools.

What should be the relationship between the superintendent and Board of Education?

The Superintendent and the Board should work closely together, respectfully, as the superintendent is responsible for implementing the policies of the Board.

What qualities and skills would you bring to the Board of Education?

I am very organized and frequently set and achieve goals. I run my own business, I am an educator, and I was a paralegal. I know how to budget, I know what the classroom and students need, and I know the law.

What school or community volunteer activities have you participated in related to the community?

I have worked as a Cub Scout Leader. and Young Women's Program Leader (teaching 8-18 year old girls). I was a reading tutor for students from 3rd through 12th grades. I organized a clean-up project on Alameda for Balloon Fiesta, engaging all ages to participate. I have frequently worked in food banks putting food orders together and packing groceries for the elderly.

How do you plan to work with constituents?

My office will be open for anyone who wants to discuss any issue in my district or in APS. I will return every telephone call and every email. If I don't know the answer, l will find it and discuss with any constituent the needs of their child, their community or their school.

What do you see as opportunities and challenges to the district?

I see this position as an opportunity to connect with each of the schools, principals, teachers, students, and parents. There are many challenges facing us due to the past year, but I think we have to make sure our students know their value and worth, and making sure that each school meets the goals of improving reading, writing, and mathematics. We need to get back to basics, so that we can uplift and move our students in the right direction.

What do you think is the best way for the district to accomplish the district’s goals?

  • Albuquerque Public Schools will provide equitable access and opportunity in a safe and suppo11ive environment that addresses the individual needs of students.
  • Albuquerque Public Schools will align the work of schools and departments and create a system of high-quality accountability for instruction, social, emotional and physical health and safety.
  • Albuquerque Public Schools will create a clear direction for efficient and effective operations to better serve students and improve staff morale.
  • Albuquerque Public Schools will improve all modes of communications to better infom1 and engage the Albuquerque community invested in public education.

I will work tirelessly to make sure that these goals are achieved. I will never stop fighting for our children to get the highest quality education we can give them. If we were achieving these goals, we would have a much higher graduation rate, more students would be proficient in math and reading, and we would have the quantity and quality of teachers we need to promote and accomplish all of these goals. Our children deserve a Board that will move them forward and I will always put our children first.

If elected, how will you work with the current board?

Most of the board will be new, so I will work with the current Board members as they depart and new Board members alike, to create a results-oriented vision for our school district.
