Your Hard Work Matters to Our Students Every Day

Posted August 29, 2024, 4:40 PM. Updated September 6, 2024, 12:10 PM.

In her weekly message, Superintendent Blakey thanks all APS employees for the work they do.

Maybe the last thing anyone wants on Labor Day Weekend is to hear from their boss. Believe me, I get it.

So let me just say this: Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Your work in our schools and in support of Albuquerque kids makes all the difference in our community, and I want you to know how much I appreciate that on a day (and weekend) dedicated to the people who do the labor in our nation.

Our students are the stars in Albuquerque, but they shine brightest against the backdrop of all you do, whether it’s teaching them, feeding them, driving them, or supporting them. I’m always struck by how interconnected we are, which is why I’m so proud when I see one of our workers complimenting a colleague.

The truth is, we’re all in this together. On Labor Day. On Sept. 17. On Nov. 8 or Jan. 25 or April 1 or May 24. Every single day we are building toward something better so the students of Albuquerque can succeed.

I witnessed just how important we are to one another on Wednesday, at the first State of the District address. We had more than 350 people there, including students, and it was uplifting to see how many people from all walks of life believe in what you do at APS.

We’re making headway, in large part because of your hard work. Labor Day is a time of celebration, and today, I celebrate you.

I hope you have a great weekend. And thank you once again.

P.S.: I know many of you couldn’t watch the State of the District as it was happening. For your convenience, here’s a link to the event.
