A message from incoming Superintendent Gabriella Blakey.

The end of the school year is in sight.

I thank you for all you’ve done over the last nine months to help your child excel in school. Let’s finish the year strong! We are committed to improving reading and math proficiency rates, preparing our students for life after graduation, and equipping them with the life skills they need to be successful.

It’s going to take all of us to achieve these goals, and we’re grateful to you and our community partners for stepping up to help. One of those partners, New Mexico United, is helping us wrap up the school year with a giant celebration called School’s Out Night!

It’ll take place during United’s soccer match against Hartford Athletic on Saturday, June 8, at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park. The game begins at 7 p.m. Discounted tickets are available for APS staff and families, with a portion of the proceeds going to the APS Education Foundation for school and classroom grants.

APS students and staff – including elementary school students who have made significant gains in reading – will participate in pre-game and half-time activities. Board members will provide more information on the board-adopted Goals and Guardrails and a survey to gauge how the district is doing. APS soccer players and a teacher choir will also take part in the festivities.
In addition, APS will have a reading table on the concourse with free books and tips for summer reading and a Human Resources table with information on working for the district.

On a personal note, my nephew and I will have the honor of participating in the ceremonial first kick.

This promises to be an amazing event, so circle June 8 on your calendar and purchase your discounted tickets before they sell out. I look forward to seeing you there. Somos Unidos!
