Happy School Year! Video Message from Supt. Elder

Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Scott Elder welcomes staff to the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

Hello and welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. In case we haven’t met yet, I am your superintendent, Scott Elder.

How are you feeling about this school year? Excited? Anxious? Maybe a little bit of both?

I am optimistic. And energized. Things are feeling a little more like they used to, and I welcome the return to normalcy, even if it is a new kind of normal.

As I greet you today, I realize preparation for this school year actually began days, weeks, even months ago. Please know I appreciate all of your time and effort.

It’s going to be a good school year because I believe in you.

I believe in you because you believe in our students and their right to a high-quality education in a safe, welcoming environment.

That’s what public education is all about, right?

I don’t have to tell you the job isn’t easy. Don’t lose faith when things get hard.

Don’t give up.

And remember, you are not alone.

If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that human beings are hardwired to connect. Nowhere is that more true than in our schools.

So, turn to one another. Help each other out. Make connections.

And let’s make this a rewarding school year for students and staff alike!
