Biography
Phill joined Albuquerque Public Schools following a distinguished career in journalism, during which he led storied newspapers and earned numerous awards. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a minor in speech communications.
Prior to becoming Executive Director of Communications and Engagement at APS, Phill was editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican, senior editor for local news at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, and editor and president of the Albuquerque Tribune. He served as executive director of the APS Education Foundation from 2009 to 2017.
He has served on several boards, including the Texas Tech University School of Mass Communication Advisory Board, the UNM Alumni Association, and the Albuquerque/New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame. Among the accolades he received during his journalism career was being named Sports Writer of the Year eight times by the National Sports Writers and Sportscasters Association.
