Reading Intervention Teacher Professional Development
The Title I Elementary Reading Intervention Teacher Professional Development Program is offered to Title I Reading Intervention teachers who provide direct supplemental intervention instruction to identified students. The program includes large group district professional development sessions with lesson sharing and text study, and on-going individual school site-visits. Participants will study scientific reading research and implement scientifically research-based supplemental reading intervention instruction to increase student achievement.
Teachers
The Title I Elementary Reading Intervention Teacher Professional Development Program is offered to Title I Reading Intervention teachers who provide direct supplemental intervention instruction to identified students. (Title I teachers who implement the Waterford and/or SuccessMaker Reading Intervention Programs will receive their professional development from Pearson and Michele Halliday.)
Professional Development Objectives:
- Study Scientific Reading Research
- Implement Scientifically Research Based Supplemental Reading Instruction to increase student achievement
Professional Development Framework:
- Six Large Group District Professional Development Sessions including Lesson Sharing and Text-Study
- On-going Individual School Site-Visits
Group Meetings:
Six large group meetings will be held during the 2010-2011 school year. Dates and focus area include:
- September 24, 2010 – Response to Intervention, Reading Intervention Programs
- October 22, 2010 – Practices From Schools with Strong Intervention Outcomes, Reading Assessments and Progress Monitoring
- November 12, 2010 - Intervention Resources, Research-based Text Study
- January 21, 2011 - Parent Involvement, Reading Assessment Resources
- February 18, 2011 – Tier 1 Core Instruction and the Alignment of Tier 2 Intensive Intervention
- March 11, 2011 – Standards Based Assessments and Data Collection
In addition to the large group professional development sessions, support is provided through on-site visits where interventionists confer with the Title I Resource Teacher. Visits are conducted two times per year and as requested.
