All About Pinterest

Learn all about this visually-based social networking site.

Pinterest is a social network, available on the web or via mobile application, that functions as a visual discovery, collection, sharing, and storage tool.

Pinterest users can create "pinterest boards" to store and save various collections of information.

Pinterest functions as a bookmark tool for many because the original source of the pin is embedded into the pin, and users are able to click-through the pin image to the original website/source. Users are also able to upload their own pins, pin images from websites they visit, or re-pin pins from other users that they follow.

Boards are created through a user selecting an item, page, website, etc. and pinning it to an existing or newly created board. Users save and share pins from multiple resources onto boards based on a plethora of criteria, e.g. similar characteristics, a theme, birthday parties, planning a vacation, writing a book, interior decorating, holidays. Boards can develop projects, organize events, or save pictures and data together.

Pinterest boards can be used by educators to plan lessons. Teachers can pin sites for later referral. Students can pin and organize sources and collaborate on projects, (boards have the option to allow multiple users to pin to the same board).
