Read & Score with Club Read

Annual program sponsored by Dion's, the Isotopes and the state of New Mexico.

Dion’s, the Albuquerque Isotopes, and the State of New Mexico are teaming up to promote youth literacy for the 12th annual Club Read program. The incentive-based reading program encourages preschool and elementary age students to read during the spring and summer months in exchange for prizes. The program runs through July 25, 2015.

“Whether we’re providing jobs to young people or supporting a school or youth event, we at Dion’s want to intentionally support youth in our communities,” said Mark Herman, Chief Executive Officer of Dion’s. “Club Read reading and education in a fun, simple way. We’re proud promotes that so many kids take part each year.”

Students can “score” prizes by completing a scorecard. Scorecards are available at participating Dion’s locations,http://www.dions.com/community/club-read-program, participating public libraries and Isotopes Park. Each student that submits a completed scorecard will earn their first “home run,” and receive a backpack, official Club Read t-shirt, certificate of achievement from Governor Susana Martinez, and a second scorecard.

“When we help our children learn to read well at an early age, we are building a foundation for success in school and in life,” said Gov. Susana Martinez. “I am always proud to join with community partners like Dion’s and the Albuquerque Isotopes, and of course Orbit, to make reading fun for kids and set them up for long-term success.”

Once a student completes their second scorecard, he or she will earn a new book, a ticket to an Isotopes home game, a free small drink at the game, and one entry for the grand prize drawing. Ultimately, four grand prize winners will win four Suite-Level tickets to a home game as a guest of the Isotopes mascot, Orbit, participate in the ceremonial first pitch, receive an autographed baseball, enjoy one large Dion’s pizza during the game, and will be awarded a $20.00 Dion’s gift card.

“The Isotopes are thrilled to once again be partnering with Dion’s and the State of New Mexico as part of Club Read,” said John Traub, Isotopes General Manager. “Promoting literacy is an important part of our community relations outreach.”
