Career Highlights

May 1976 - graduated college (Northern Arizona University), bachelor's degree in music education

August 1976- moved to Albuquerque and served as band director at Kennedy Junior High and Tomasita, McCollum and Apache elementaries

Spring 1977 - joined KANW part time, put them “on air” on weekends

Summer 1978 - “on air” at KZIA after school and weekends

Summer 1981 - left teaching to move full time into radio and television

1981-82 - KQEO/KZZX news director (morning drive, highest ratings in town)

1982-1990 -  KGGM-TV 13 (now KRQE) reporter/photographer, producer, anchor.

  • Highest ratings in time slots

August 1991 - returned to teaching, band director/video instructor at Ernie Pyle MS

Spring 1994 - acting assistant principal, Ernie Pyle

January 1995 - APS Computer Learning Center manager

Feb 1995 - manager of Learning Technologies (Technology Department reorganization):

  • provided vision and leadership on the implementation of technology in schools
  • standardized software use across district
  • standardized professional development for technology
  • created help desk
  • built and managed the first APS website and guided it through three iterations and growth
  • created and implemented APS intranet
  • helped numerous schools create their first website
  • Developed a school based student information system (Filemaker Pro)

Summer 1998 - started 1:1 laptop program for administrators

1999 - named Apple Distinguished Educator, one of 100 in the world at the time (due in part to the work in getting tech in hands of administrators and teachers)

2001 - Started RESPECTT (Raising Educational Standards, Professional Expectations and Communication Through Technology) program, 1:1 laptop for teachers

2001-2004 - held multiple boot camps for role groups, librarians, clerical, teachers, admin, others

2004 - Manzano Instructional Cluster Assistant (ICA)

  • built strong cohesive team of leaders (principals) that shared resources
  • standardized on technology purchase and use
  • implemented a 1:1 laptop for students in sixth grade English
  • hired a cluster tech with shared resources
  • set up cluster intranet (Moodle) for cluster wide communication
  • designed and implemented electronic visitor check in systems for Manzano cluster schools

2008-Manzano High School Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction

  • fully implemented Classroom Connection (online learning system)
  • converted school to Mac platform
  • standardized many instructional practices, ensured consistent online grades for parents and students, raised instructional expectations
  • implemented 7-period day with working and effective collaboration groups
  • raised technology use complete with common laptops for teachers,
  • implementation of mobile devices
  • positioned Manzano for a 1:1 iPad implementation
  • implemented TV communication system
  • put school on Twitter
  • managed the automated calling system to provide upgraded and efficient communication to families
  • expanded and fully implemented a student/staff information system (Filemaker Pro) to support data collection and efficient access to that data for data driven decisions as well as inventory management, observation tracking, parking permit management, student discipline, visitor registration, and more
  • Joined Shades of Purple (MHS Faculty Band) as a tenor sax player

2013-14 - created and filled the role of Instructional Technology Coordinator for MHS, including planning and delivering technology training every Friday for staff during the school year.

Since 1979, volunteer pledge drive on-air talent at KNME/NM PBS
Since 2010, audio/video producer for Safe Teen assemblies and presentations
Since 2011, has been an Apple Professional Development Specialist, delivering
professional development sessions to schools and districts for Apple around the
