Deborah Kay Smith, Collet Park Elementary

Deborah Kay Smith is retiring from Albuquerque Public Schools after 35 years of teaching. 

She comes from a family of Educators. Her Dad, Manny Smith was a Principal and Teacher for 35 years.

Her Mom, Rosemary Smith was a teacher for 42 years with APS. 


Deb, started her career  with APS/UNM as an intern in 1981. 

She worked on her Masters Degree while working at Cochiti Elementary in the bilingual program for 9 years. 

She worked at McKinley Middle School for one year  and Collet Park for most of her 35 years. For the last 5 years, Deb has had the rewarding opportunity of being an Instructional Coach at Collet Park.  She has also served as the School Test Coordinator and SAT Chair.

The chance to be an Instructional Coach , Test Coordinator and SAT Chair and 

working with such amazing Principals and Teachers has been such a blessing. 

She has had 35 fabulous years at APS.  Ms. Smith has thoroughly enjoyed doing numerous projects,plays and

performances with her students over the years. She was actually a student at Collet Park ES herself during her

years growing up.  


She will miss the Students, Staff and many friends she has made throughout her career.



Her Plans for the future include, working on an Administration degree, trips to Vegas, California, Cruises ,being with her family and friends and 

seeing her beloved NY Jets play!!!! She is known at work as Deb-Jets . 


Please join us in celebrating her retirement .  There will be an open house gathering to honor her. 

It will be Tuesday, May 10, 2016 , Collet Park ES library (2100 Morris NE), from 2:30-4:30pm. 

Deb says she came into teaching by using the 3 R's, Reading , Writing and Arithmetic. She now leaves with the same philosophy.  

Rest, Relaxation and taking care of Rosemary!  Her mother who just turned 90 years old.

Deb would like to thank everyone who has been a part of her amazing experience with APS!
