Connie Gallegos

Connie Gallegos is retiring after more than 22 years with Albuquerque Public Schools. She started her career in 1991 at McCollum Elementary School as a special education assistant under the supervision of Principals Gilbert Villarreal and Letha Oman. Through her hard work and determination, she worked her way up from educational assistant to clerk and then to special education secretary.

In January 2005, Connie joined the wonderful staff at the APS administration building as a receptionist. She then moved over to City Centre in October 2005 to be the sick leave clerk. In August 2006, Connie joined the Indian Education Department as a Home-to-School Liaison, working with Native American students and their families.

Starting in August 2011, Connie began her current position in the Truancy Department of the Student, Family, and Community Support Division. As a truancy advisor overseeing the Rio Grande and West Mesa clusters, she was responsible for twenty schools and worked under the awesome leadership of Ron Lucero.

Throughout her career, Connie has truly enjoyed working with students and their families, as well as with administrators, to find the resources necessary for the students to be successful in the classroom and in life.

In her words: “This was a very hard decision for me to make, particularly because I will be leaving my friends, my co-workers, my wonderful boss, students, staff members at my twenty schools and at City Centre. Thanks for the memories. I will enjoy retirement!”
