Cheryl Johnson, Volcano Vista HS

Cheryl Johnson, a teacher and coach at Volcano Vista High, is retiring. She has worked in education for 31 years as a PE teacher and volleyball, basketball and softball coach as well as an assistant principal, principal and athletic director. She has worked at West Mesa, Cibola, Albuquerque, Highland, Rio Grande, Del Norte, La Cueva, Valley and Volcano Vista high schools. She has been at VVHS since the doors opened in 2007.

Among Cheryl's accomplishments are three state softball championships, one at La Cueva and two at Volcano Vista.

"We will miss Cheryl’s expertise, knowledge and extremely competitive spirit. She keeps us all on our toes and pushing the envelope to accomplish something better than the last time," said VVHS Principal Valerie Atencio. "We wish Cheryl the best in retirement; we know she’ll be spending all her free time with her granddaughter, and we expect to see lots of pictures and hear lots of cute stories."
