Carla Murray, Special Education Teacher and Counselor

Carla Murray began her career in education as an educational assistant in 1976 at Wherry Elementary. In 1985 she was inspired by the Side-by-Side program at Valley High School to return to complete her bachelor’s degree in special education.

Carla’s first teaching assignment was in 1989 at Chaparral Elementary. She then went on to teach at Valley, Kit Carson, Los Padillas and Zuni. While at Zuni she decided to pursue her master’s degree in school counseling. She thought this was the best way to work with as many students as possible.

Carla became a counselor in 2003. Her first counseling position was at McKinley Middle School. This gave her a lot of valuable experience that she carried on to her other assignments.  She was also the counselor for Barcelona, Armijo, and Hubert Humphrey elementaries.

Carla will greatly miss working with children but is now pursuing options in working with veterans and mental health.

Carla’s retirement was effective Dec. 1, 2013.
