Nex+Gen Academy Cited for "Fun, Friendly" Design

The “fun, friendly and flexible” design of nex+Gen Academy brought home a Grand Award for an Albuquerque architecture firm from Learning By Design, a trade publication focusing on education facilities. Dekker/Perich/Sabatini was one of three recipients of the national award, which was announced in the publication’s 20th anniversary fall issue.

Nex+Gen is a high school of choice that operates on a project-based learning model. Classes are small and collaborative and each student receives a laptop and access to other state-of-the-art technology. The award committee cited its collaborative from small breakout areas that accommodate 6-8 students to its spacious lobby with café-style seating. It’s designed to meet LEED—Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design—Gold certification standards.

The school, located on the Del Norte High School campus, opened in 2010.
