Mark Hillmeyer, Taylor Middle School

Mark Hillmeyer, a technology teacher at Taylor Middle School, led several student teams to victory in the New Mexico Stock Market Game, sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Foundation and Fidelity Investments. Teams of students were given a virtual $100,000 to invest in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Students traded in real time, just like in the real stock market, between October and December. Taylor teams took the first five places, and eight of the top 10, in the competition. The top teams managed nearly a 15 percent return on their investments.
