Cleveland MS Named National Demonstration Site for SpringBoard

Representatives of Cleveland Middle School, APS and SpringBoard hold the banner that will be on display at the school through 2013.

Cleveland Middle School is the first in New Mexico to be name as a National Demonstration School by Springboard. Representatives of SpringBoard, including its vice president, recently traveled from New York to personally recognize the school and its staff.

SpringBoard is a pre-Advanced Placement and college readiness curriculum operated by the College Board. According to its website, SpringBoard is billed as the foundation of the College Board’s College Readiness System through its rigorous program and culturally and personally relevant activities as well as strong professional development for teachers. Cleveland was cited for the way its staff collaborates to prepare students.

Cleveland is one of the first schools in the country to receive the demonstration designation, which it will hold through 2013. SpringBoard will bring school district officials from around the country to Cleveland to see the program in action. The school also will be mentioned in SpringBoard research reports.

Four APS middle schools currently use the program.
