APS Principal Selected for Chinese Delegation

Joyce Newman of Arroyo del Oso to visit schools, "build bridges"

Veteran principal Joyce Newman will be in China from Nov. 3-11 as part of the “Chinese Bridge for American Schools” program. The Arroyo del Oso Elementary principal will have the opportunity to deepen her understanding of China, share best educational practices and build partnerships with Chinese schools.

After attending several lectures in Beijing, Newman and 24 other American delegates will spend 15- or 16-hour days visiting schools in Changchun, about 600 miles to the northeast. She said she hopes to establish a relationship between a Chinese school and Arroyo del Oso.

The only participant from New Mexico, Newman was selected by the College Board, in partnership with the Hanban/Confucious Institute in Beijing. She has won state and national awards for her work as an administrator. Newman has been principal at Arroyo del Oso for 14 years.
