APS Counselor Travels to D.C. to be Honored by White House

Freida Trujillo, a college and career readiness counselor at Tony Hillerman Mid-School, was a finalist for School Counselor of the Year.

The American School Counseling Association celebrated its School Counselor of The Year Award in collaboration with the White House on Friday, Jan. 30. This was the first year the White House has participated in the award ceremony for school counselors.

School counselors were nominated for the national award by their state organizations. Freida Trujillo, an APS college and career readiness counselor at Tony Hillerman Middle School, was nominated by New Mexico School Counselor Association (NMSCA).

She was a semi-finalist and was recognized at the event. She traveled to Washington,D.C. to participate in the School Counselor of the Year Celebration. Danielle Calvillo, assistant principal at Tony Hillerman, joined her in D.C. for this event.
