Truman Teacher Sets U.S. Record for Bench Press in His Age Group

Kyle Hardy, 65, will compete at the world championships in Las Vegas in November.

Truman Middle School teacher Kyle Hardy will represent the United States at the International Powerlifting League in November after setting a new American bench press record for the 65-69 age group. He lifted 320 pounds.

"I tell my students that if a fat old man can get off the couch and do what I have done they can do anything they want to and have no excuses," said Hardy, who teaches sixth grade world history. He has been at Truman for 16 years and plans to retire in May.
