Time to Nominate 2015 Selfless Seniors

Deadline for submitting online nomination is Oct. 22.

Selfless Seniors are APS high school seniors who have demonstrated a willingness to give back to their families, communities or schools with little or no recognition. At least one senior from each APS comprehensive high school will be honored, and students from APS alternative schools also may be considered.

The honor was created eight years ago by the APS Education Foundation and noted Albuquerque photographer Frank Frost to give a nod to students who make our community a better place to live.

Selfless Seniors receive a $100 check and also are the subject of a portrait sitting by Frost, who donates his time and talents to the effort. A recognition ceremony is held in the spring with dignitaries from throughout the community in attendance.

“Selfless Seniors is just another way of noting the great things our students do in our community,” said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. “We honor more than two dozen students, but the truth is that hundreds if not thousands of our students help our community every day.”

Any member of the community may nominate a senior. Attendance, grade and behavior standards are taken into account by a nominating committee of the Foundation.

Update: Due to overwhelming interest in this application, the deadline for accepting nominations has been extended from Oct. 10 to Oct. 22.
