Required Training for APS Employees

Required online training for APS employees has been moved from Blackboard to a new system called SafeSchools. The Blackboard training is no longer accessible. This annual training is required by federal and state laws, board policies and administrative procedural directives.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need to complete required training? Training is required annually. Courses will be available after July 15 for each school year.

What is the deadline date for completion of the course? Each school year, complete the courses by December 1. Employees hired or coming back from leave after October 1 will have 40 working days to complete the course.

How do I log in to SafeSchools?

  • Using your web browser, go to the SafeSchools website for APS.
  • Enter your username which is the letter e followed by your six-digit APS employee ID number.
  • Enter your password. Use the same password you use to access your email account. For login issues, call the APS Service Desk at 505-830-8080.
  • Training assigned to you will appear under the heading titled Mandatory Training.

What trainings are required?

  • Training assigned to you will appear under the heading titled Mandatory Training.
  • Training listed under the heading of Suggested Training is optional unless your supervisor has requested you complete the training.
  • Extra training is available to all employees.

Some of the SUGGESTED training is actually MANDATORY:  The system cannot assign the courses below to specific employees without assigning it to everyone. Review these to see if you need to complete these training.

  • Anyone driving an APS vehicle: Defensive Driving
  • Counselors, Social Workers: Crisis Response and Recovery
  • Counselors, Social Workers: Threat Assessment
  • Custodians: Fire Extinguisher Safety
  • Science teachers: Science Lab Safety

How do I complete a training?

  • Click on the training title.
  • Click on the first item in the list.
  • Watch the video segment. You will need to watch the entire video segment. When the segment finishes, it will take you back to the course information screen, and the section will be marked as completed.
  • Click on the next video segment.
  • Continue until you have viewed all the video segments.
  • Complete the quiz.

When will the course be marked as completed? To get a completed status for a course, you must view all the video segments and pass the quiz.

How do I print a certificate of completion? Once a course is marked with a status of completed, click on the "Blue Ribbon" icon.

Do I need to provide completion certificates to my principal or supervisor? The training program will keep track of your completions. Principals and supervisors will have access to view reports for employees assigned to their location.
