Transportation

School bus rules and registration. Find out how to ride the bus to school.

NOTE: APS does not provide school bus transportation to students who have been approved to transfer schools.

APS provides transportation for students who:

  1. Go to the school assigned for their district, and
  2. Live a certain distance from the school

How far away must I live?

  • Elementary School (K-5): Students must live at least 1 mile away from their school in order to ride the bus.
  • Middle School (6-8): Students must live at least 1.5 miles away from their school in order to ride the bus.
  • High School (9-12): Students must live at least 2 miles away from their school in order to ride the bus.

How to Register for the Bus

Students will be registered for transportation when registering for school. In order to obtain accurate information and ensure safety of the students at all times, parents will be asked for the following information:

  1. Student's full name
  2. Student's home address and phone number
  3. Emergency contact information

This student information is collected for the bus driver and will remain confidential.

General Information and Rules

Here are some rules and general information regarding transportation and riding APS buses:

  • Transportation to school is provided throughout the regular school year and during the summer for schools on year-round calendars or extended school years.
  • Transportation is provided for a number of school-sponsored activities.
  • Students are expected to abide by all the school bus rules outlined on the APS Student Transportation Services site.
  • Students will be picked up and dropped off at designated locations; bus drivers will not drop off students at other locations.
  • Students should arrive at the designated bus stop 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time; afternoon buses will leave the school loading zone 7 minutes after the school bell rings.
  • Middle and high school students are required to show their school identification when asked by the bus driver or other administrative staff.
  • No glass items, live animals, dangerous objects, or musical instruments larger than 40 inches in height can be transported on the school bus.
  • APS does not provide school bus transportation to students who have been approved to transfer schools.
