Instructional Coach Program
The Instructional Coach Program supports improvement of instructional practice and student achievement. Albuquerque Public Schools provides a school-based district Instructional Coach at each elementary and middle school. The Instructional Coach is a master teacher and mentor who serves as a facilitator of teacher learning. The majority of the coach’s time is dedicated to working with individual and small groups of teachers to improve professional practice through coaching, planning and reflection. Coaches are expected to demonstrate high levels of expertise in core content, pedagogy and differentiated instruction. Coaches act as learners and leaders of professional learning communities at the school and district level, embracing strategies to increase teacher capacity and improve student outcomes by focusing on collaboration, support for teachers, and the school and system plan for instructional improvement.
