Dr. Diego Gallegos Will Help Bridge Gap Between School, Home, Community

Associate Superintendent Assigned to Help Rio Grande High

Dr. Diego Gallegos

Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Winston Brooks announced Thursday that Dr. Diego Gallegos, associate superintendent for student support services, has been assigned to help Rio Grande High School bridge the gap between school, home and community. Gallegos also will provide support to the school’s staff and Principal Cynthia Hale, who is in her first year at Rio Grande High, though he will not serve as her supervisor.

The announcement came after a week of student scheduling problems at Rio Grande High that have left many students, families and community members feeling frustrated.

“This is another step we’re taking to be reactive to the situation at Rio Grande,” Brooks said. “We want our kids to get the best education they can get, and we want our families to feel supported, to get their questions answered and to get their concerns addressed.”

Gallegos, a South Valley resident who has been an educator for nearly 40 years, said he is looking forward to assisting the Rio Grande community in helping students succeed.

“I hope to help re-establish trust between Rio Grande High and its students, parents and community,” Gallegos said. “I know they want to make a difference; they want to help. My job will be to support them and the Rio Grande staff.”

Beginning Monday, Gallegos will have an office a Rio Grande where he will tap into his years of experience as a leader, administrator, group facilitator and reformer. During his lengthy career, Gallegos has managed student support programs and the continuous improvement, reform and performance of schools in need.
