Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work

The CDC has developed education for families on overuse of antibiotics. To understand when an antibiotic will help with treatment of illness, check out the information available in the CDC Get Smart page.

Most antibiotics are not effective in treating viral infections such as a cold or flu infection. In fact, some times taking an antibiotic when you have a viral infection, can do more harm than good.
