What We Fear Most Has Happened Again

Superintendent Reedy offers condolences to those impacted by the shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas.

Dear APS Community,

As we await details on yet another school shooting, this time at Santa Fe High School in southeast Texas, we ache for the school community, we pray for those who have lost loved ones, and we can't help but worry about the safety of our own students.

I want you to assure you that we are very much aware of your concerns and are doing everything we can to address and alleviate the understandably high levels of anxiety that these school shootings may trigger. APS has been reviewing and improving safety protocols at our schools in an effort to make sure our students and staff can learn and teach in a safe setting.

We provided a lot of information on school safety a few months ago following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. I am sharing that information today for your review:

Improving School Safety

Addressing Tragic Events with Children

Whenever there are acts of violence at a school, we as educators and parents can’t help but hold our own children a little closer. Once again, that is what we will be doing today.

Sincerely,

Raquel Reedy, Superintendent
Albuquerque Public Schools
