We Love Our Volunteers!

During National Volunteer Week we want to thank our 15,000+ volunteers who give of their time and wisdom to help our students, teachers and schools.

You can bet that at any moment during the school day, there's a volunteer -- or two or a hundred -- helping students and staff in Albuquerque Public Schools.

Interested in volunteering with APS? Get more information.
  • They are in the classroom, assisting students with reading, math, science, art, music and much more.
  • They are on field trips, helping to keep students safe while they experience new places and ideas.
  • They are in the office, taking on receptionist and clerical duties.
  • They are in the school health room, keeping kids healthy.
  • They are working one-on-one with students with special learning needs.
  • They are guest speakers, sharing worldly knowledge and career advice.
  • They are in the library, checking out and shelving books.
  • They read aloud to students.
  • The help with specific projects like curriculum fairs, competitions, screenings and productions.
  • They tutor before, after and during school.
  • They serve as positive role models and supportive adult friends for kids who need someone to talk to or motivation to stay in school.

And so, so much more.

"We simply could not do what we do without the many volunteers who give their time and talent to being changemakers in our community," said Elizabeth Calhoon, APS Volunteer Manager. "These volunteers understand the important role education plays in the life of every child and in the future of our community."

Considering all the ways people can spend their time, we are grateful to the 15,000+ APS volunteers who choose to spend it helping our kids.
