We love our 8,135 volunteers! Want to join them?

Last year, APS volunteers spent more than 100,000 hours helping our kids.

For more information on volunteering for APS, go to www.aps.edu/volunteer-with-aps or call 855-5267.

Obviously, volunteers play a key role in our schools. There are lots of ways you can help, too. Volunteer services include:

  • Tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Classroom read aloud
  • Guest speaking
  • Classroom assistance
  • Non-classroom assistance (field trips, media center, site beautification)
  • Organization involvement (PTA, PTO, Student Health Advisory Council)
  • Before-and after-school programs.

It’s easy to become an APS volunteer thanks to our online application process. Simply go to www.aps.edu/volunteer-with-aps, fill out the application and pay the $12 processing fee (credit and debit cards accepted). Those who pass the background check will be able to start volunteering at APS schools within 10 business days.

Volunteer NowThe online application is part of an ongoing effort to make it easier for parents and others to volunteer in schools while keeping students safe. The application fee has been cut by two thirds in the past few years and now volunteers don’t have to get paperwork from school principals and make a trip to City Centre to
fill out the application.

A Spanish version of the application is also available.

Of course, those who don’t have access to computers can still come to the APS administrative offices at 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE to fill out the volunteer application, or they can go to their child’s school, where computers will be made available.

The application asks for contact information as well as the volunteer’s date of birth, social security number and driver’s license number. This information is used for the background check. Applicants also can check all of the schools where they wish to volunteer. There’s no need to fill out a separate application for each school.

“We encourage you to volunteer with our schools and we appreciate all of our volunteers, whether they are students seeking community service opportunities, a family member seeking to become more involved in the education of their children, a senior citizen seeking an outlet for their skills and experience or a corporation wishing to give employees greater opportunity to be involved in their community,” said Sonja Martens, volunteer program manager.
