Two APS Students Earn National PTA Recognition

Two Albuquerque Public Schools students received recognition for their artwork through the National PTA 2012 Reflections awards. 

Zoe Hughes of Hubert H. Humphrey Elementary and Melody Yeh of North Star Elementary each won an Award of Merit in the visual art category. The National PTA has announced in six different arts categories annually for more than 40 years. 

Hughes, a fourth grader, created Diversity Means Embracing our Differences Peacefully. Yeh, who is in second grade, titled her piece, A Beautiful World. 

Winners were chosen from hundreds of thousands of submissions from students across the nation and in European schools serving military families who participated in this year’s program, themed “Diversity Means…” Some 116 students of all school levels across the country received an Award of Merit, while 72 others earned an Award of Excellence. Six earned the top honor, the Outstanding Interpretation Award.
