Transformation Day a Success Again at Ernie Pyle Middle School

Ernie Pyle students pitched in for Fidelity Investments' Transformation Day.

August 20, 2012

Ernie Pyle Middle School students and staff returned this week to fresh paint and landscaping following Fidelity Investments’ Transformation Day over the weekend. Company volunteers dug in once again to spiff up the school for the new year.

Nearly 100 Fidelity employees participated, along with members of Ernie Pyle’s student council. They painted locker rooms and the teachers’ lounge, and spread new wood chips in planters around campus. They also painted inspirational quotes in hallways and the locker rooms.

“They not only transform the physical environment, but they also transform school spirit, contribute to our academic success and build positive relationships with our students, staff and families,” Ernie Pyle Principal James Lujan said.

This is the third year Fidelity employees served the school. Fidelity deploys volunteers around the country in cities where it has offices and adopts Title I schools.

Lujan said it’s important to have the entire community involved in order to improve academic achievement and student success. The school community has always appreciated Fidelity’s efforts, but the improvements have had one more unexpected effect.

“When parents see what’s been done, they ask me how they can contribute,” Lujan said.
