We're Collecting Gently Used Clothes for Students in Need

Drop them off at City Centre from 7:30-2 p.m. Friday, April 6.

If you decide to do some spring cleaning during spring break, we hope you'll keep our kids in mind.

The APS Community Clothing Bank is hosting a Spring Cleaning Drive on Friday, April 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the APS administration building (City Centre).

They're asking for gently used clothing for students of all ages -- pants/bottoms, tops/shirts, dresses, uniform-type tops and bottoms.

They'll have donation bins in the north parking lot of the APS administration building, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE,  from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 6, the Friday of the week students return from spring break. 

The APS Community Clothing Bank partners with Goodwill Industries of New Mexico to make sure students have comfortable, season-appropriate clothing so they can focus on learning.

The pickings have been slim in recent months, so we're asking that the public go through their closets and donate what they can.

Students can get up to three outfits three times a year. They get can pick them out themselves at any Goodwill store in Albuquerque. An outfit consists of pants and shirt or a dress.

School counselors, nurses and social workers help coordinate the program. Parents and students can ask for help, as can teachers and others at school.

The Clothing Bank serves about 5,000 APS students a year, also providing gently used coats, new socks, underwear and shoes.
