Simply Lovely: Spring Concert Series

Attend a free concert featuring Albuquerque native and jazz pianist Mike Ning.

When: Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.

Please join us for a FREE concert featuring La Cueva High School percussionist Lucas Sanchez, the Desert Ridge Jazz Band I under the direction of Ms. Donna Schmidt, and the La Cueva Silver Blues Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Keith Jordan. Donations welcome at!

Sky Velvet Vassar was an extraordinarily talented 8th grade musician, poet, and student at Desert Ridge Middle School who passed on unexpectedly. The Sky Velvet Vassar Music Foundation will create a lasting legacy to honor Sky’s name and support talented young people from our community for future generations by granting a premiere four-year college scholarship to a prestigious music conservatory in the United States as well as Skybird Scholarships to Hummingbird Music Camp in Jemez Springs to school children ages 8-14. Mike Ning is a self-taught pianist, acquiring the skill by studying American musical movies and receiving just one year of formal piano lessons. Mike’s musical roots include the Menaul High School rock band “The 5 Jives” and his own Mike Ning Trio. He has played in many Jazz Festivals, concerts, and night clubs, backing up vocalists and noted artists such as Bill Watrous and Arnie Lawrence.
