School Lunch Heroes

During School Nutrition Employee Week, we want to say thanks to all 700 people who work for APS Food and Nutrition Services.

Cafeteria workers at La Mesa ES

That includes cafeteria workers, drivers, maintenance workers, administration and central kitchen staff. So far this school year, this hard-working team has served: 3,968,124 breakfasts and 6,997,605 lunches!

They also offer snacks and energy boosters.

And this year, they have provided students with an opportunity try and learn about a variety of fruits and vegetables through the USDA's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.

Good nutrition is key to a healthful life. Studies show that students who are well nourished have increased attendance, better grades, and are able to concentrate and perform at higher standards.

The food service program, as an extension of the educational programs of the schools, is operated under the federally-funded National School Lunch Act and Child Nutrition Act, and the National School Breakfast Act.

The goal of the department is to maintain high standards and accountability, while consistently exceeding the expectations of our families.
