PNM Power Camp Expanded to Include 8th Graders

Applications are now being accepted.

By popular demand, the PNM Power Camp has expanded to include eighth graders.

Applications are now being accepted for these hands-on, full-day, one-week camps for students going into the seventh and eighth grade who are interested in and possess strong skills in math, science and energy.

Students qualify if:

  • They are entering the seventh or eighth grade in the 2014-15 school year and currently attend an APS public or APS charter school
  • They can provide their own transportation and commit to attend each day of camp during the assigned week
  • They have a strong interested in science and math and want to have fun in a hands-on environment
  • They have at least a B average in science and/or math
  • They want to learn more about energy.

Camp Dates & Locations

  • Session A: June 16-20, Manzano High School
  • Session B: July 23-27, Atrisco Heritage Academy
  • Session C: July 7-11, West Mesa High School
  • Session D: July 14-18, Eldorado High School

Transportation is not included. Special education accommodations are not available. Lunches are not provided.

To apply

  • Fill out the application and note the preferred location
  • Have a mentor complete the recommendation form. Recommendations can come from a teacher, coach, counselor, activity leader, etc.
  • Determine the student's program status (free/reduced lunch) by contacting the child's school. Write this next to the gender line on the student application.
  • Determine the registration fee based on the sliding scale below:
  1. $50 full
  2. $25 for students who qualify for reduced-price meals
  3. $12.50 for students who qualify for free meals
  • Submit student application, recommendation and payment at the Alice & Bruce King Educational Complex, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE during one of the following times:
  1. Tuesday, May 27 from noon-4 p.m. in the Rio Puerco Room
  2. Wednesday, May 28 from 8 a.m-noon in the Rio Puerco Room
  3. Tuesday, June 3 from 8:30 a.m.-noon or 1:30-3:30 p.m. in Suite 580 West
  4. Wednesday, June 4 from 8:30 a.m.-noon or 1:30-3:30 p.m. in Suite 580 West
  5. Thursday, June 5 form 8:30 a.m.-noon or 1:30-3:30 p.m. in Suite 580 West.
