Manzano High School Band Hosts Navy Group ‘the Commodores’ Thursday, Oct. 25

The Commodores perform on Oct. 25 at Manzano High School.

October 23, 2012

The Manzano High School band presents the U.S. Navy jazz ensemble, the Commodores, in concert at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, in the school gym. The ensemble is stopping in Albuquerque as part of its national tour.

The 18-member group, a specialty unit of the U.S. Navy Band out of Washington, D.C., performs jazz and big band music for national audiences, and is widely recognized as one of the premier jazz ensembles in the country. Formed in 1969, the Commodores have performed with legendary musicians like Ray Charles and the Beach Boys. They have appeared on television as well as prestigious events including the International Association of Jazz Educators Convention, The Midwest Clinic, the Detroit/Montreux Jazz Festival and the Elkhart (Ind.) Jazz Festival.

The Commodores perform classic tunes as well as original compositions by the group’s own members.

The event is free and open to the public, but you need a ticket. Tickets are available at Baum’s Music at Eubank and Candelaria.
