Letter from Board to New APS Superintendent

"We would like you to know how excited we are to collaborate with you," wrote the APS Board of Education to Superintendent Designate Dr. Luis Valentino.

Dear Dr. Valentino,

On behalf of the Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education we would like to say welcome and congratulations!

As you prepare to take over duties of one of the largest school districts in America we would like you to know how excited we are to collaborate with you on what we believe is one of the most important issues of our time –public education.

We are a diverse community with many unique challenges and opportunities. As you begin your new role as APS superintendent you will quickly become aware of all the demands we face. But you were selected because of your experience, vision, commitment and passion, and we are confident you will be inspired by the amazing and talented students, teachers, administrators, support staff, community members, policy makers, non-profit and foundation members, corporate and faith leaders and friends ready to assist you.

Our shared focus is always student achievement. Our goal is to create a public school district that affords students attractive life options from career to college. We appreciate the multiplicity of our clients, their desires and our responsibility to all we serve.

Please know while an entire community is looking to you for leadership, you have our support as you plan the critical work ahead of you. We hope over time you’ll see your dreams for our students and staff realized so that everyone feels a sense of pride in Albuquerque Public Schools.

With appreciation,

APS Board of Education
