APS sponsors Metro Tournaments throughout year

The Albuquerque Public Schools Athletics Department showcases the district’s athletic teams by sponsoring Metro Tournaments during each season. Schools compete for the big traveling trophy, and winning teams get blue championship t-shirts.

The first Metro Tournament of the school year will match up soccer teams from Albuquerque and surrounding areas including Rio Rancho. The tournament begins Monday, Aug. 25, at the APS Soccer Complex. The championship games for both boys and girls teams will take place on Friday, Sept. 5.

APS also hosts the annual football East vs. West Kickoff Clash featuring eight football games in three days. Seven of the games will be held at Community Stadium Aug. 27-29.
