La Cueva Senior Named National Achievement Scholar Semifinalist

Semi-Finalists will compete for $2.5 million in college scholarships

A La Cueva High School senior has been named a semifinalist in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship program sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

Ximena Lane of La Cueva has been named a semifinalist in the program that recognizes Black American high school students for their achievements on the 2013 pre-SAT. As a semifinalist, Lane will have the opportunity to compete for some 800 Achievement Scholarship awards next spring worth about $2.5 million.

To advance as a finalist, a student must continue to have an outstanding academic record, be recommended by their high school principal, and earn high SAT scores during their junior or senior year. Students also must submit an application with an essay and information about their participation in school and community activities.

Lane was one of only two seniors in New Mexico to be named a semifinalist.
